About CRID

About us

The Centre for Research in Infectious Diseases (CRID), created in 2017, is an international non-profit scientific research centre based in Cameroon. CRID aims to improve health conditions through cutting-edge disease research and training. The centre provides an excellent environment for high-quality and internationally approved entomological research on tropical and vector-borne diseases in Africa with extensive national and international collaborations. Our main targets are major tropical infectious diseases such as malaria, sleeping sickness, yellow fever, emerging vector-borne diseases such as Zika and dengue, and neglected tropical diseases like tick-borne diseases.

CRID, in its departments of Medical Entomology, Parasitology and Microbiology, has highly qualified researchers who meet the requirements of the environment and are able to use state-of-the-art technical facilities efficiently. It continues to evolve in the world of scientific research, relying on its young, passionate, and motivated technical staff.

Our work is conducted with honesty & transparency.

  • OUR VISION

Saving lives through quality research and capacity building in the field of tropical and infectious diseases.

  • Our Mission

To contribute to the fight against infectious diseases in Africa through knowledge development, training and the strengthening of research capacities on infectious diseases.

Our Research Activities

Evaluation of the effectiveness of vector control tools against malaria vectors (insecticide resistance in mosquitoes).

Studying the genetic basis of mosquito resistance to facilitate detection, monitoring and surveillance of resistance in the field.

Vector surveillance — specifically the occurrence and densities of vectors of malaria, arbovirosis, onchocerciasis, sleeping sickness and leishmaniasis.

Monitoring of emerging zoonotic pathogens and viruses in the human population, in domestic animals and humans.

Development of new vector control tools based on technologies such as gene drive, microbiota and paratransgenesis.

Our Facilities

Laboratory

The Centre for Research in Infectious Diseases (CRID) situated in Yaoundé – Cameroon provides comfortable, safe and well equipped laboratories to conduct various research in the domains of Medical Entomology, Parasitology and Virology.
